Oil at the bellhousing on a Z32 is the rear crank seal until proven otherwise. That lip rides the crank flange behind the flywheel. When it hardens, oil walks onto the clutch or converter and the leak never stops until the transmission comes off.
The Genuine Nissan / NOK crankshaft rear oil seal is the current rear-main seal for VG30DE and VG30DETT engines in Fairlady Z and 300ZX Z32. One is required. It supersedes a long list of earlier numbers including 12279-30P00 and 12279-1N500. Do not confuse it with 12279-1N510, which is a different NDK listing. Install the seal square in the housing with the gearbox removed.
